“Find out the cause of this effect.

Or rather say, the cause of this defect.”

William Shakespeare

General Motors has recently issued a series of recalls due to defects in more than 29 million vehicles across the world. A wide range of “mechanical troubles” is said to be the reason for the recalls. Problems that have been reported include:

  • Faulty seats
  • Incomplete welds on seat brackets
  • Turn signal failures
  • Power steering failures
  • Defective engine switches
  • Other mechanical issues

The mechanical troubles of the vehicles themselves are not simply quality issues they are symptoms of a much bigger issue – the accidents, injuries, and wrongful deaths they have caused. GM says defective ignition switches in their Chevrolet Cobalts and other vehicles have lead to than 50 accidents and caused 13 deaths.

In response to the damages caused by the auto manufacturer’s negligence compensation expert Kenneth Feinberg announced that General Motors offers “at least $1 million in compensation” for personal injury and wrongful death victims that were in accidents caused by their defective ignition switches.
