Protecting And Preserving What Matters Most: Family

Dangerous Products At Home

On Behalf of | Sep 19, 2022 | Personal Injury, Product Liability

Most people feel that their home is the safest possible place to be. However, the home does tend to have some dangerous products inside of it that can prevent it from being as safe as you hope it to be. Review the list below and check to make sure you are doing everything you can to keep yourself and your family safe.

Candles

Candles provide a beautiful scent for your home, but they come with inherent risks. The largest and most obvious risks are burns of the skin and, most obviously, fire. Placing the candle near papers, curtains, other flammable items or near busy areas can increase the risk of fire. Placing the candle where it could be knocked over by children or pets increases the risk of causing significant damage by fire.

Extension Cords

Extension cords are an incredibly helpful tool around the house, but overuse, misuse or use while damaged can cause a significant hazard including electrical shock or fire hazard. Check to make sure that the cord you are using is in good shape and doesn’t have any nicks or exposed wires. Never plug too many cords into one cord and keep the cord out of reach of children or animals.

Chemical Cleaners

Toxic substances can be found in many common household cleaners. If misused, they can cause substantial injury. Some of the potential injuries could be accidental ingestion, damage to lungs through inhalation and burn injuries.

Space Heaters

Space heaters have the potential to be an economical alternative to expensive heating bills. However, they do have inherent risks. If the space heaters are placed near flammable objects, they could ignite and cause fires. All space heaters that are in use should be implemented with a tip-over shutoff feature.
